Appletree Books

Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating our 41st year in our original location.

We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally, and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.

We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.

August 2017

The Turquoise Table, by Kristin Schell, emphasizes the importance of finding community and connection in your own front yard… and we hope that you will find a similar sense of “front yard,” neighborhood and hospitality at Appletree Books.  I encourage you to use our large front table to chat with friends, connect with neighbors and meet new friends and fellow booklovers.  In the ever-expanding universe of e-commerce and the Internet, personal connections and social interaction have become even more important and should be cultivated and perhaps cherished.  Come in through our back door (to escape the Cedar Road street construction!) and we will welcome you, your stories and your interactions into our “neighborhood.”

Dunham Tavern is the oldest building still standing in Cleveland, and the the tavern, garden, and barn offer glimpses into the lives of 19th Ohio, while a offering vibrant green space in mid-town Cleveland. The Anisfield-Wolf window profiles the 2017 recipients and their notable books.
