Appletree Books

Appletree Books, an independent bookstore, offers an eclectic, well curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. Established in 1975, we are excited to celebrate our 40th anniversary this year!

We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally, and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.

We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.

The third book for the Books In A Bar group has been selected!  Paula McClain will be joining us when we discuss her new book, Circling the Sun on Monday November 16.

Along with independent book stores across the country, Appletree Books is proud to participate in the National Crenshaw Food Drive, a campaign spearheaded by Newbery Award winning author Katherine Applegate and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group to help combat childhood hunger. Through the end of October, we will be collecting food items for the Heights Emergency Food Center, which has been serving our community since 1981.

Crenshaw book coverCrenshaw is the title of Applegate’s new middle grade novel, which will be available on September 22. Jackson is a bright fifth grader whose family is going through hard times. They have no money for rent, very little for food, and they are living in their minivan. Crenshaw is Jackson’s cat; he’s large, outspoken, and imaginary! He has come back into Jackson’s life to help him. But is an imaginary friend enough to save this family from losing everything?

Appletree Books is a delightful oasis in a sea of cookie cutter bookstores. You’ll find the expected here, but also the unexpected. The store’s tranquil atmosphere makes it a welcome place to shop.
