Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating our 41st year in our original location.
We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally, and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.
We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.

“Sleigh bells ring…are you listening?”
Certainly doesn’t feel like sleighbell weather, but the Christmas countdown has begun. If perhaps you are in doubt about this, you can check our Christmas countdown blackboard in the store!
Special thanks are extended this month to staff member, Jane Rothstein, who did a stellar job in November coordinating our minions of writers working in the store windows. Although sun glare (who would have thought in November?!) was an occasional problem, we were delighted with the response and turnout for NaNoWriMo. Look for this to happen again next year!
And in the holiday spirit, all of us at Appletree wish all of you, our supportive customers, a joyous and peaceful holiday season!
Now an annual tradition, our store windows for December and January feature the creations of Roxboro Elementary School students,
under the direction of art specialist Sheri Fried. This year’s theme is “Winter in the Heights,” with a special focus on Cleveland Heights architecture. Stop by to view the work of these young artists!
“I will have to come back and spend more time. You have some wonderful books!”
“I really wouldn’t know what to read without you!”
“Appletree Books is one of the reasons we live here in Cleveland Heights!”

Led by knowledgeable facilitators, our groups are designed to introduce you to great books in an informal setting that is fun and informative.
Groups typically meet for 60-90 minutes once a month. The books we will be discussing are announced in advance. We meet in the store or at another location in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood.
