Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating our 41st year in our original location.
We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally, and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.

What can we say about May? The beginning of glorious weather, outdoor dining and the smell of lilacs. For graduates, May is the beginning of a new path and/or chapter in life; for families, May is a month to appreciate mothers and the encouragement and support they have afforded their families through the years. Be sure to grab a good book, sit on the porch or the terrace, and remember to smell the lilacs! – Lynn
Our store window this month features unique, hand-painted silk lampshades from Cleveland Heights artist, Gunter Schwegler. A fiber artist, Gunter has sold pieces to museums, shops and galleries. Pieces in the window are available for sale.
Our Events Page has the full schedule; here are some highlights:
– Friday, May 13th – Mary Weems will read from her one-woman show “Blackeyed” in the store
– Tuesday, May 17th – Mimi Ormond will share stories from her book, “Kinderstransport: A Rescued Child” at Nightgown
– Friday, May 20th – Nina Sadowsky will sign copies of her new book “Just Fall” (Balantine Random House) in the store

Led by knowledgeable facilitators, our groups are designed to introduce you to great books in an informal setting that is fun and informative.
Groups typically meet for 60-90 minutes once a month. The books we will be discussing are announced in advance. We meet in the store or at another location in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood.
