Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating our 41st year in our original location.
We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally, and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.
We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.

The celebration of books and paper arts take center stage here at the store during October, showcasing the talents and knowledge of Gene Epstein, Karen Esper and Ben Sapp, who will share their love of and expertise with books.
If any of you are aspiring writers, please consider writing in our windows this November. Remember last November, when we “opened” our windows to creative writers in celebration of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month?) Well, this effort was enthusiastically embraced, and we are doing it again! We would love to see more talented students and young people “creating” in our windows, so if you know someone who might be interested, please encourage them to participate! In the meantime, happy Fall!
Our front windows and our artist wall this month feature the art of Gene Epstein. She takes used, discarded books and transforms them into sculptural, expressive works of art.
