Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating our 41st year in our original location.
We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally, and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.
We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.
We are pleased to carry the following:
Caspari greeting cards, notecards and wrapping paper
Cavallini notecards, calendars, wrapping paper and labels
Christine Mauersberger (Lakewood, OH) botanical notecards
Gingiber Letterpress (Arkansas) calendars and note cards
Hazelmade (Michigan) notecards and greeting cards
Jamey Christoph (Cleveland Heights, OH) prints and postcards
Letterpress Jess (Canton, OH) prints and postcards
Notes and Queries greeting cards
Ornament Letterpress (Shaker Heights, OH) letterpress notecards and flatcards
Paddywax literary collection of candles
Piccolino Designs (Shaker Heights, OH) notecards and postcards
Pomegranate notecards, puzzles and calendars
Rose Iron Works (Cleveland, OH) notecards
Saturn Press (Maine) letterpress greeting cards and notecards
Snow and Graham notecards, greeting cards, memo pads, wrapping paper and calendars (we are the only store in northeast Ohio to carry their products)
School is out, vacation time begins, and we can enjoy the outdoors! Appletree is beginning a new chapter as we undertake an expansion into the store between us and Liquid Planet. When completed in early fall (we hope), the new space will allow an enlarged children’s section, the consolidation of our notecards, gift wrap, and greeting cards, and space for hosting events in the store. As the project unfolds, we will provide regular updates here and in our monthly newsletter.
Changes in Hours
Appletree will be closed on Sunday, July 3rd in honor of Independence Day. Beginning on July 10th and continuing until early November, the store will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.
The June store windows spotlight the work of the West Side Catholic Center , Which since 1977. has been providing food, shelter, emergency services, and a women and children’s shelter in the Ohio City area of Cleveland.
In July, our windows are all about fashion. Local artist, Juli Edberg, will display paper sculpture designs, and illustrations by the late Shirley Isenstadt will be displayed.

Groups typically meet for 60-90 minutes once a month. The books we will be discussing are announced in advance. We meet in the store or at another location in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood.
