Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well-curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating over 40 years in our original location.
We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.
We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles, and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.

September brings with it the beginning of fall and cooler temperatures; for Appletree Books, September brings newly expanded hours as we prepare for the November opening of Doug Katz’s restaurant next door to us in the Cedar-Fairmount neighborhood. As of September 3rd, our new hours will be: Tuesday and Wednesday 10 to 6 (the same as before); Thursday and Friday 10 to 9 (that’s an extra hour both evenings); Saturday 10 to 8 (an extra 2 hours); Sunday 11-4 (like the old days but allowing you time to get home for the Browns games after brunch), and closed Monday (until November 1st). Watch for construction progress as our new neighbor approaches an anticipated mid-November opening. In the meantime, as the days get shorter, we hope you will stop in and see us for an inspired reading choice… or two… or three!
