Appletree Books, an independent bookstore established in 1975, offers an eclectic, well-curated selection of new book titles in multiple genres for both children and adults. The store is located in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood at 12419 Cedar Road in the historic Heights Center building, up the hill from Cleveland’s University Circle. We are proud to be celebrating over 40 years in our original location.
We seek to offer books that transport readers to other places, both visually and verbally and aim to introduce beautifully illustrated and interesting books to our customers.
We feature greeting cards, journals, letterpress cards and notecards in addition to puzzles, bookends, candles, and small gift items in an intimate, warm space in the historic Heights Center building.
We are pleased to carry the following from local and national designers:
Hazelmade: notecards, greeting cards and tea towels
Furbish & Fire: candles
oddball press: greeting cards
Ornament Letterpress: letterpress notecards and flat cards

While gray skies and cold temperatures are forcing us inside, being inside can have its benefits by affording us time to update our interior spaces and to attend to “chores” that have during nice weather been pushed aside. And you know you have procrastinated cleaning out those closets and filing all the paperwork that tends to accumulate with our everyday lives. “Cocooning” and “nesting” are contemporary terms that immediately come to mind in defining winter month confinement.
The greatest benefit of retreating inside is the opportunity to read books that we have put on the shelf with good intentions of reading but that in fact remain unread; once the weather improves, we will all look outside for that fresh viewpoint, but for now, we can obtain a new perspective by reading great books and recommended “reads”.
Now is the opportunity to curl up with a series; our newsletter has had a number of suggestions for both current and “under the radar screen” titles. Winter can also provide time for “armchair travel” to an interesting country, culture, and/or environment.
Should you desire a new literary perspective to provide some “light” during these gray winter days and if you are searching for an alternative to all the Zoom and streaming service screen time to which we are subjected on a daily basis, we can easily be reached by either phone or e-mail.
